Kinbaku Alba
(Formerly the Strathclyde Open Rope Exchange)
Kinbaku Alba hosts practice space, workshops, tuition and performances involving the use of rope. Kinbaku (緊縛) is also known as Shibari (縛り) and Japanese Rope Bondage. We promote interpersonal communication using rope technique as a language. Kinbaku can be described as somewhere between a mediation and a dance between partners flowing to, from and with each other. We welcome people from all backgrounds and identities to learn with us and focus on the development of rope technique, body control and emotive expression.
Although Kinbaku has its roots in sexuality and eroticism we shun vulgarity and dedicate our spaces to inclusive exploration.
Our goals are to:
- Promote the acquisition of basic techniques and safe practice
- Equip students with the words and phrases to build a Kinbaku vocabulary
- Build variety of style by inviting Tutors from different backgrounds to teach
- Increase awareness of Kinbaku as an art form
Our events will be:
- Intro to Rope – regular beginner level workshops
- Rope Salon – practice space for all levels of skill
- Twisted – a night of performance and social tying
- Masterclasses and Workshops – Topic led workshops by specialist tutors
